A return to cicardas and small birds

Its the end of the year already. The damn year has flown by as usual. Its been a year of new beginnings and endings. I got lost down laneways and dark alleys and I got my toe stuck in my thong (the shoe kind) and tripped over. I found out I’m hopeless with change (not the money kind, I’m very good at saving in fact) and that I miss the ocean to no end. Theres something about frolicking in the sea that I can’t get enough of. Im like a little kid.

I watched a lot of episodes of the ‘Twilight Zone’ and decided it reminded me too much of my childhood so I stopped.

I found love in all the wrong places, which fortunately turned out to be the right kind of love. Oh no here comes a link…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV05oji5doc

Proudly released an EP and sang in front of lots of people at the EP launch at the OAF in a tutu that we call the ‘six six’ aptly named by Miss BShaw (Not George Bernard though) and incredible design by JOlivieri.

Found about 63 plastic bags under my bed after cleaning and rearranging my room. I was trying to be environmental, but my boyfriend thinks I was hording. Not sure what I was going to put in all those bags but it turns out the house I now live in has just as many.

I cut my own hair, its cheaper that way. Today Im sporting an Elvis quiff and it makes me look more like my dad. Strange, my dad never had an Elvis quiff, but its the shape of my face or something.

Moved house. Theres plastic snakes around the pool to fend off uninvited ducks who think its ok to swim and the bathroom is pink with matching towels and bath mats.

The days are long here. But in a good way. I only hear cicardas, birds and the wind floating through the palm trees in the backyard. Lots of time to think about new songs, wearing ‘nine nines’ and dancing to Roy Orbison on our record player.

Have yourselves a wondrous Christmas. I’ll be back to harass you next year with more wonderful ramblings and sweet sweet nothings.

May all beings everywhere be happy and free!

Inspiration that makes me quirkly sexy

Word!

Im not a music nerd, although I do appreciate many styles of music. i dont really read music blogs or check out the charts or see who’s what and whats doing who does when. I’m a bit of loose cannon when it comes to inspiration for my music and just stuff in general. So I’d thought I’d share!

Im a big fan of Jacques Tati. Only just recently watched three of his films, Mr Hulot’s Holiday, Playtime and Mon Oncle. Incredible films. His jerky movements remind me of a musical composition or melody. He moves like a violinist playing something unrehearsed. I wanna write songs based on the Mr Hulot character. One day I will. The way he places people in the frame, the way a character for example the ‘street sweeper’ in ‘Mon Oncle’ appears and re-appears in many scenes in this film and is seen doing the same thing every time, he only sweeps for a short time before hes having a philosophical converstation with someone. Tati’s sense of humour is classic.

Tati and Chaplin are by far my favourite film makers because Im fascinated by their ability to make music with their body language. You could watch their films totally silent, turn down the volume and still make a soundtrack in your head. Well at least thats what I feel. Although in saying that, Tatis use of sound is brilliant, the off kilter, lag of some of the sound editing makes me giggle. Its almost like the sound is poking fun at the characters.

Anyway, I also get a hoot out of the sound of pedestrian crossings and the green man music. Some of the buttons make really hilarious sounds, especially if they are sick and need repair. Next time you are at a crossing have a listen, let me know what you get out of it.

Birds tweeting also interest me.

other films/tv that inspire me still:

Blow Up - Antonioni, The Twilight Zone, Romancing the Stone (Ha!), Paris Texas - Wenders…

Ok, so stay tuned for another installment and remember:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain

‘There Will Be Static’ Ep Launch at the OAF, me in the “Six Six”

‘There Will Be Static’ Ep Launch at the OAF, me in the “Six Six”

There will be Static

Welcome to the slightly eccentric self, which you are apart of, of which you have entered and will continue to enter because you are curious. A ‘Whats he building in there” kind of curiousity.

Ive spent way too much time today already on this blog, but here you are reading the ramblings of someone elses thoughts and ideas, but its pretty much what you were already thinking of anyway. Todays blog will not offer any new ideas or inspiration, except perhaps this:

“One must know that one is ignorant before one can begin to know” -Sri Aurobindo

or

“We go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong…” - Grease

I’m sorry if this has taken you away from whatever you were doing, but I think you needed a break, its ok to take breaks people, we are not machines, and not like this either:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWPKd56MCd4

I got a bit off track there…if you want to listen to more of this, you might like my EP too, so without any further ado, shameless publicity and that…you can buy “There WIll Be Static” on ITUNES and also here:

until next time.

lots of love

Tom Waits: ‘Actually Im only afraid of a few things. I’m afraid I’m gonna be walking along some day in Los Angeles and drop down a manhole, and theres gonna be, like, five hundred unemployed bossa nova musicians and theyre gonna “Girl from Ipanema” me to death.’

this is the music video for ‘postcard guy’, the first single of the EP “There Will Be Static” directed by Angelo Kehagias http://www.akfotography.net and edited by me.
